The Alliance Française de Charlottesville sponsors the first annual Waiters' Race!

The Alliance Française de Charlottesville, a local nonprofit since 1992, celebrates France’s National Day every 14th of July in Charlottesville as part of its mission to promote French language and culture in the area. The 14th of July in France signifies the capture of the famous Bastille Prison and the beginning of the French Revolution in 1789. It is celebrated with great fanfare in all of France but in particular in Paris with military parades on the Champs-Elysees and fireworks over the Eiffel Tower.

This year, the AFC is excited to announce our Bastille Day Celebration for 2016, hosted for the second time on Charlottesville’s well-known Downtown Mall.  New this year is Charlottesville’s first Annual Waiters' Race on the Mall. A Waiters' Race is a beloved French tradition and is practiced at many American Bastille Day Celebrations. For our Waiter’s Race, we have asked local restaurants to register a waiter to compete. (visit www.CVilleWaitersRace.com for more information). The race will begin at 3pm on the 14th at the Pavilion, run the length of the Downtown Mall (with a few obstacles), and finish in front of the Fountain where awards will be given to the top three racers.
